The New York Center for Autism, founded in 2003, has been an instrumental force in model programs educating and serving children on the autism spectrum and their families. NYCA has also fostered collaboration and dialogue within the autism community nationwide. The purpose of NYCA is to address the serious gaps in the areas of education, training, clinical services, support and research related to ASD (autism spectrum disorder). NYCA identifies areas of need and facilitates collaboration among resources from the public, private and governmental sectors. Their mission is to develop programs that provide individuals and families living with ASD access to comprehensive, evidence-based educational services, to support the development of community resources to support individuals with ASD and to coordinate and facilitate ongoing research into ASD. |
The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer and the need for regular self-examination. Our goal is to increase early detection of testicular cancer. We seek to ensure that young men are aware of the disease and have the information they need to conduct regular self-examinations, recognize possible warning signs, and seek medical help without embarrassment or fear of stigmatization.
The Foundation was established in memory of Sean Kimerling, the Emmy Award-winning anchor of CW11 sports and pre-game announcer for the New York Mets. Sean died from testicular cancer on September 9, 2003. He was only 37.
Sean fought a brief, intense battle with cancer. He was unaware of his cancer until very late, when severe back pain (a frequent symptom of later-stage testicular cancer) finally sent him to the doctor. He was a young, healthy, vibrant man, intelligent and kind, and an extremely talented sportscaster, quickly rising to the pinnacle of his field. In the starkest sense, his life was cut short in its prime.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men between the ages of 15 and 40. It also has one of the highest cure rates of all cancers, with a survival rate over 95 percent, if detected and treated early. Too often, young men, like Sean, are not aware they have TC until it has spread throughout their body, greatly complicating treatment and their chances of survival. Our goal is that all men will have the information they need about the disease, its symptoms and what to do about them so that more cases will be diagnosed early, and lives saved.
The Sean Kimerling Testicular Cancer Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in New York City.

In May, 1992, Equity Fights AIDS and Broadway Cares merged to become Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The Board of Trustees of this newly established not-for-profit fundraising organization assumed the missions of the previously separate organizations and continues to fund the social service work of The Actors' Fund and to award grants twice a year to AIDS service organizations nationwide.
Unlike most other nonprofit, grantmaking organizations, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS must raise every single dollar of our philanthropic budget, every year, in order to fulfill our mission. In turn, BC/EFA works hard to ensure that the money we raise is spent carefully and wisely, on programs where these hard-earned funds can have the maximum possible impact.
BC/EFA's grantmaking has two emphases. The first is The Actors' Fund of America. BC/EFA currently supports five major social service programs at The Fund, each of which provides direct assistance to entertainment industry professionals and performing artists who are dealing with a variety of problems, including AIDS, HIV, and HIV-related issues. The second major grantmaking effort is the National Grants Program, through which BC/EFA makes grants twice a year to hundreds of community-based AIDS Service organizations across the country.
